Seed Evidence at the heart of our research and production center in Benin

Oil Palm full of bunches used for seed production in Benin.

Seed Evidence events are held throughout the year to give the public a glimpse into our operations. They provide an opportunity to showcase:
• our research facilities,
• our seed production sites,
• the field performance of our genetic material,
• best agricultural practices.

From April 21 to 22, 2026, PalmElit, in partnership with INRAB/CRA-PP, organized a Seed Evidence event in Pobè (research and production center) as well as in Sèmè-Podji (phytopathology laboratory).

What participants were able to discover:

Our Fusarium tests in the nursery
Visitors observed the tests used to evaluate the resistance of hybrids to Fusarium. Each year, PalmElit conducts trials on 210,000 seedlings in Benin and Cameroon, enabling the evaluation of 1,320 progenies.
Entire seed production chain
From pollination to seed shipment, participants learned about a complex and rigorous process, including:
• pollen collection
• controlled crossbreeding
• the germination process, requiring nearly 4 months of meticulous work
Ongoing field research
The discussions also provided a better understanding of the work being done to ensure the continuous improvement of our varieties and to address the challenges facing the industry.

Dr Madec explaining the oil extraction process in a lab in PalmElit's site of production and research center in Benin.
Dr Pernaci explaining our test to categorise the genetic resistance of PalmElit's material on Ganoderma.

A big thank you to our local partner INRAB/CRA-PP, as well as to all the teams involved, for their expertise and commitment to quality.
