Palm Tree Health in Ghana

Our technical sales representatives, Khadija Benyamina and Lucette Ouatantien, visited the field alongside our Ghanaian partners to discuss a key issue for the industry: palm tree health.

Two major topics dominated the discussions:

Organic and mineral fertilization

Deficiencies in mineral elements—potassium, nitrogen, magnesium, boron, etc.—directly limit the yield potential of plantations. Identifying and correcting these deficiencies is a key driver of performance, based on a fertilization strategy tailored to the plant’s needs.
New research projects and innovative tools could soon make it possible to:
• optimize organic nutrient return in plantations
• optimize fertilization plans
• sustainably improve plantation performance
• limit the environmental impact of agricultural practices

Oil Palm Diseases
Today, Ganoderma is present in many African production areas, often associated with Fusarium wilt.
In Ghana, particularly in the Central Region, several cases of Ganoderma have once again been observed:
• presence of fruiting bodies
• basal stem rot

These symptoms confirm the presence of the pathogen and underscore the importance of heightened vigilance against the risk of spread.

Our response to Ganoderma:
resistant genetic material
good agricultural practices

Preventing the problem today means providing long-term protection for tomorrow’s plantations!
