Conference on Oil Palm Diseases in Uganda.

March 24, 2026, was dedicated to training 50 members of a cooperative in the Kalangala district of Uganda. Led by our technical sales representative Tomas MESSAUDI, the goal was to provide guidance on identifying diseases in plantations while promoting discussions on best practices in nurseries.
On the agenda:
• Recognizing fusarium wilt and Ganoderma in plantations
• Ways to limit the impact of these diseases
• The importance of sorting seedlings in the nursery
Key takeaways:
• Leaf symptoms may indicate the presence of a disease, but it is not possible to make a 100% reliable diagnosis based on them alone.
• Fusarium wilt can only be identified with certainty in the field through an analysis of internal symptoms
• The presence of fruiting bodies and basal rot of the palm trunk indicates the presence of Ganoderma but does not rule out other diseases
• Choosing disease-resistant seeds is essential for prevention
Strong engagement during the event
Feedback from the conference was extremely positive; participants showed genuine interest, and there was plenty of interaction. All of this feedback confirms that the objective was achieved!
