Oil Palm Diseases
According to the RSPO, the impact of fusarium wilt on the economic and financial viability of plantations can result in mortality rates of up to 60% or more. It sometimes develops as early as the first generation, with the risk increasing sharply in the second generation. Ganoderma, which is lethal and endemic in Asia but also present in Africa and the Americas, can cause up to 80% mortality in plantations, with an increased risk during replanting
In Uganda, particularly on Kalangala Island, several cases of Ganoderma and Fusarium wilt have once again been observed:
• presence of fruiting bodies
• basal rot of the stipe
These symptoms confirm the presence of the pathogen and underscore the importance of heightened vigilance against the risk of spread.
